What to expect
An extraction is recommended when a tooth is beyond predictable repair (severe decay, infection, fracture, or advanced gum disease), or when it compromises neighbouring teeth.
Before removal:
• Assessment and X-ray if needed
• Discussion of options (including root canal or restoration where appropriate)
• Review of medical history and anaesthetic plan
During the procedure:
• Anaesthetic will be use.
• Careful removal with minimally traumatic technique
• insure bleeding stopped, post-extraction instructions and gauze placement
Aftercare essentials:
• Bite on gauze as advised to control bleeding
• Avoid rinsing/spitting for the first 24 hours (helps clot formation)
• Soft foods, avoid smoking and alcohol during early healing
• Use pain relief as recommended
• Contact us if you experience worsening pain, swelling, fever, or a bad taste/odour (possible dry socket or infection)
We will also discuss replacement options where appropriate: implants, bridges, or dentures.
